‘Linking Local Communities and Development to Biodiversity’

Conservation and development projects generally have a goal of conserving local biodiversity. Yet there is little evidence that a successful conservation and development project actually preserves biodiversity. In this talk I will present studies from work with indigenous and settler communities in Ecuador where we have tried to address if such a link exists, how it can be measured, what institutions support it and, finally, who can actually monitor local biodiversity?

Lunch, and an opportunity to chat with the speaker, will be in room E402, John Dalton East Building from 12:30. All are invited!
